There are many online travel companies who are now offering numerous cheap flights to Alicante, Spain. But once there what can one do in order to make your stay there more enjoyable.
Firstly, it is important to know exactly where Alicante is. This town is situated on the east coast of Spain between two capes and is at the heart of the popular resort region of Costa Blanca (White Coast).
Yet even though there are plenty of modern, hotels and homes in this town if you take a walk in to its central district you will find plenty of its history. Here standard some of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Spain and which clearly show how important it was as seaport before.
Although most people who visit Alicante do so because they want to spend time on its beaches there are plenty of other things to do. Certainly during the last week of June not only the locals but visitors to the town find themselves getting involved in the Fiesta of Saint Joan which takes place during the whole week.
Along with the fiesta, there is the magnificent castle (Castell de Santa Barbara) which sits high above and overlooking the town. Although originally built by the Carthaginians back in 400BC it was then used by both the Romans and Moors as a stronghold. If you really want to see what the bay and city looks like from a birds eye view then you need to climb to the top of the castle in order to do this.
