Before the break up the Soviet Union, Prague was the capital of Czechoslovakia, but is now the capital of the Czech Republic and Slovakia become a country in its own right. Called "hrad" by the Czech people this is now believed to be one of the largest and oldest of all the castles to be found in the world today. But be warned because it is such an extremely popular place for tourists to visit it is best to arrange to go and look at it as early as you can in the morning if you want to avoid all the crowds.
